Note: Unless stated otherwise, information on this page pertains to the out-of-Camp Events.

Summary

Events are time-limited implementations which usually have a theme and special, not available anywhere else rewards, such as Event Dragons and Event Trophies.

A required update to the Merge Dragons app is usually available 2-3 days before a new Event is due to start.

Most of the time Events will start the Friday of the week of the Event update release and last for 72 hours.

In order to participate, an internet connection is required. Any connectivity issues during Events will result in an inability to participate until a connection is re-established.

Types of Events

Out-of-Camp Events

An out-of-Camp Event was the first type of Event to be introduced in the game.

These Events unlock when you beat Grassy 3 and have at least[1] 70 Dragon Power (before Frozen Seas Event (September 2020) the threshold was 35 Dragon Power).

For the duration of the Event a new Level becomes available which can be accessed both from the Camp and from the Levels Map. Unlike usual Levels the Event Level can't be reset, but also requires no Chalices to start or re-enter.

The goal of the Event is to collect enough Event Point Items to earn all 10 Event Rewards. Event Point Items can be found by healing Dead Land, unlocking Cloud Keys, opening Event Chests, harvesting Limited Event Harvestables, harvesting and tapping Unlimited Event Harvestables and from tapping Event Quest Stars.

You can receive additional Rewards by completing all 10 Event Quests.

In-Camp Events

The next kind of Event to be introduced was an in-Camp Event.

In these Events to collect 10 prizes you need to earn Points by interacting with your Camp: merging items in 5s (Merge 5 Event), creating Merge Combos (Merge Combo Event), harvesting, merging, building, attacking or tapping various objects (Camp and Chill Event).

  • The Merge 5 Event was the longest running in-Camp Event, but as of November 2019 it's discontinued.
  • The Merge Combo Event was released for everyone only once in July 2019 before its discontinuation due to unfavorable reviews.
  • The Camp and Chill Event hasn't made it out of Beta yet, but with its last occurrence being in December 2020 it seems to be the only in-Camp Event still considered by game developers.

Seasons

In September 2020 Seasons were introduced to the game.

To participate in a Season you need a relevant Merge Dragons app update and at least 3,000 Dragon Power (before the 7th Equinox Season (March - April 2021) the threshold was 2,000 Dragon Power).

In this type of Event you have 28 days to complete a list of 30 Quests that deal with healing the Dead Land, merging or harvesting various items, creating Goal Stars or Dragons. You can complete these Quests both in Camp, in Levels and in out-of-Camp Events. After each Quest is completed, you receive a Reward in a Loot Orb labeled "Royal Rewards" and either proceed to the next Quest immediately or have to wait for a few hours.

Unlike the other types of Events, Seasons have two tiers of Rewards: one received for free and the other one only available to those who bought the Royal Pass with real money. The Royal Pass Rewards include Season Dragons.

The first two Seasons only had a limited release. And although starting from the third Season (November 2020) the Event could be played by a larger audience, the feature is still in Beta and not available to everyone.

Den Events

Note: Since Den Events are a new feature, the information might be subject to change.

Den Events are a new type of out-of-Camp Events. They were introduced to the game in March 2021. The first occurrence was a Beta test, released for a limited amount of Dens. The second Flufflands Event (26th - 29th of March 2021) was available to everyone.

The Chameleon Dragons and a Giant Lucky Coin Event Trophy are Den Events unique Rewards, introduced during second occurrence of the Event.

To participate in the Den Event you need to either join an already existing Den or create your own. If you leave your current Den or try to join a new one in the middle of the Event, you'll be unable to continue playing, but will still receive all the Rewards you've already earned.

For the duration of the Den Event you can access a new Level, both from your Camp and from the Levels Map. As always, the Event Level can't be reset, but also requires no Chalices to start or re-enter.

To win 10 prizes offered by the Event you need to earn Points by merging various objects. Unlike the merging dynamic in the in-Camp Events, in Den Events the amount of Points you receive per merge is determined not by items' quantity but by their level. Meaning merging any number of objects will give you the same amount of Points as a three-merge, and merging high level items will make you earn significantly more Points. To boost your Points gaining you can throw level 5 Wishing Well Coins into the Divine Wishing Well, which will grant you a random Boon. For 15, 20, 25 or 30 minutes the Boon will give you additional Points for specific Merge Chains or objects' merges. The Boons use all standard Merge Chains (Life Flowers, Fruit Trees etc.) as well as Den Event exclusive ones (Wishing Well Coins and Mysterious Burrows).

The same with any out-of-Camp Event, you can receive extra Rewards by completing all 10 Event Quests.

In addition, a new tier of 4 Den Rewards was added. It unlocks after 5th personal Reward and relies on communal effort. The amount of Rewards received is determined by the Den Score, which is a total sum of all Event Points earned by Den's members. It's near impossible to earn all Den Rewards by yourself, so joining an active Den is recommended. All earned Den Rewards will arrive in the Camps of all participating Den members after the Event is concluded.

Event Rewards

Every Event offers 10 prizes earned by collecting Event Point Items. Each received Reward will be transferred to the Camp in a separate Loot Orb with the text "Event Reward". The 65,000 Point total required to earn all 10 Rewards is roughly equivalent to one level 10 and two level 9 Event Point Items.

General Tips for Out-of-Camp Events

The Events usually follow a similar general pattern, although with different layouts and particular cloud-lock items each time. While this pattern is always subject to change, here is a general guide applicable to events from early 2021 onward:

  • Half of the cloud key locks are fairly easy to open, but the last few will require particular items you will only be able to find on the map (or merged from them), on dead squares that require 50,000 (!) healing energy to restore.
  • There are several harvester dragon eggs under the cloud unlocked by acquiring the Tanzanite Mystery Nest. Make sure to tap out the nest before combining them, because you might be able to make a 5-merge with them!
  • One cloud lock will likely require a high level harvest-source, which you will only be able to make by combining the several smaller sources you'll have by then, but combining them too early will greatly slow your harvesting progress so don't bother with that one until you've got your two Tier 10 points-items and claimed all the prizes already. You won't need to unlock that one in order to complete the Heal All Land event quest anyway.
  • The Fallen Star unlocks a trove of Spellium Coins. If you've been saving the lower-level coins picked up along the way and only making 5-merges with them, you might be able to combine the Spellium into as many as two Magic Gems of Tears.
  • Purchasing a patch of Prism Flowers for 10 Gems will allow you to grind through the Dragon Trees, Wood, and then Bushes merge chains to eventually produce a Ruins of the Sky Palace and get more dragons long before you reach the Nest at the far end of the deadlands. That is a LOT of grinding though and probably takes far more time in active-play than it actually saves, so the rest of this guide assumes you're working with only the two dragons you normally get.
  • Don't worry too much about holding out for 5's of special event-items like Autumn Trees or Forgotten Flowers, the level provides enough to get everything you need even if you merge only by 3s. You do need to be careful not to tap out the nest or star or golden capsule before unlocking their cloud keys though!
  • The tier-1 event-chests you'll find scattered around the level (and eventually harvested occasionally from higher-level harvest-sources) are ALWAYS worth hanging onto and merging in 5s (apart from tapping the very first one you get so the annoying arrow goes away).

2021 Event Guide

  • Heal land however you like until you reach the 500-barrier, then focus on creating 1-2 Tier 5 Twin Life Flowers and nothing lower than a Tier 4 Glowing Life Flower (trash any leftover Tier 2 or 3 flowers). You should have at least 1 or 2 Young Fruit Trees by now too, so space those out somewhere away from the flowers, and then let your dragons autoharvest Tiny Life Orbs while the trees slowly spawn Life Flower Sprouts (and VERY rarely Fruit Tree Seeds) around themselves.
  • Always let the tree seeds sprout on their own (don't combine), and as you gradually collect fruit tree sprouts, merge them in 5s and continue spacing the Young Fruit Trees out toward the bottom of the map, ideally so that all 8 spaces around them are empty and also not overlapping the 8 spaces around another tree.
  • Avoid merging the fruit trees to anything higher, since you only want them for the sprouts they produce and the more of them you have the better. Under no circumstances should you ever merge the fruit trees to a harvestable level (unless you've already claimed every prize the Event has to offer), or the dragons will waste huge amounts of time flying back and forth to pick fruit off them, then even more time harvesting THAT to produce low-level coins, when all you really want them to focus on is life orbs.
  • Similarly, avoid creating any harvestable points-item sources yet, or the dragons will waste a LOT of time harvesting those instead of life orbs. In case you have just a single harvest-source, either merged accidentally or revived on the field, you can remove it from the dragons' action-options by tapping it once and then keeping it selected whenever not doing anything else. Note they'll still fly over to it, but they won't begin the long process of actually harvesting it as long as it's selected and will eventually go do something else, so keep it somewhere close to the flowers. You might even consider selling it off, since you will find more and better points-items deeper into the deadlands.
  • Now just check in occasionally (every 15-30 minutes) and mass-combine the life-orbs (in 5s or multiples of 5 if you can quickly count them, otherwise just keep combining them all at once until there are few enough to count) as high as you can go before setting the phone aside and waiting again, until you have at least 2 Life Orb of Souls (the big light green ones). At the same time, periodically combine the sprouts whenever all the trees are surrounded by them, as long as you can get all the resulting flowers up to at least Tier 4 (at least 20 sprouts to create one Tier 4, 33 for two Tier 4s, or 50 to create 1 Tier 5 flower all in one go). If you can, then do that and sell off any remaining Tier 2 or 3 flowers. Otherwise just move the fruit trees around to give them more empty space and continue accumulating sprouts, until you can get up to a Tier 6 flower. You only need 1 for now, since two dragons can work on it at once.
  • Remember to re-select the harvest-source (if you have one) each time after clearing the field so the dragons don't waste time working on it.
  • When you're ready, set off both Soul Orbs to heal almost all of the 500-squares and open a huge mass of brambles and random items (and temporarily destroy your ability to autopilot Life Orb harvesting).
  • The dragons will start harvesting the brambles and flood the area with bones and sprouts, greatly reducing their focus on producing life orbs, so work on cleaning up the area and push for one Tier 8 Life Tree Sprout which will produce a Tier 4 Life Orb with each harvest (remember 2 dragons can work on a Tier 8 tree at a time), then sell off all lower-tier Flowers so the dragons have no choice about what to harvest and compress your tree farm to take up less space (don't combine the young trees though). Repeat the above autopilot technique with occasional orb-combining check-ins until you have at least 3 x The Life Orb of Heavens which should be enough to heal most of the map (make sure you have unlocked the quest requiring you to create 3 of them before you actually create them, otherwise they won't count and you'll have to make even more!). You may actually want to hold out for 5 Heaven Orbs, which will be enough to clear the map completely (depending on how much merge-healing you do along the edges), since once you set them off, the orb-harvesting autopilot-system will be destroyed again forever. You'll still be able to harvest orbs, but there will be a bunch of points-harvest sources now too and it will take much longer to autoharvest orbs than before.
  • Note that dragons will on rare instances harvest a Tier 2 Life Flower from the Life Tree Sprout, which will start contaminating your harvest with single hearts. Just sell or trash it when you notice it and combine or tap the hearts to clear them away again.
  • Finally, once the map is all healed, sell off the life tree sprout and any other life flowers, and similar to the life-orb autopilot-harvesting, let the dragons work on harvesting/combining points-items by 5s until you have 2 x Tier 10 charm items (or 1 Tier 10 and 2 Tier 9s in case you accidentally merged them early), which will be enough to claim all 10 of the Event prizes at once.
  • The key is always to give the dragons as little choice about where to work as possible, since they will always prioritize the least-productive or furthest-away option available. Try to combine the harvest-sources until they all produce Tier 3 points items when harvested, and remember to tap the sources every few minutes if you're playing to produce an extra item from each. Once you have a few dragons working for you, you may even want to sell off the Rock Dragon you started with, since it is by far the slowest harvester on your team but tends to be the first one to respond whenever you tap on a particular target.

Trivia

  • You can, eventually, always buy an Egg from the Egg Shop of the Event's Dragon, given you've unlocked the Dragon Whelp of that Event (with the Owl Griffons as an exception). New players can try and get the Whelps from the Challenge Levels.
  • There will always be 6 Dragon Eggs and 2 Tanzanite Eggs in every Event map. As of 2019 it's generally 3 Eggs of slow-harvesting Dragon Type (Builder, Defender) and 3 Eggs of Harvester or Trophy Type Dragon.
  • There will always be three cloud patches in the Event's level unlocked by Tanzanite Mystery Nest, Gold Treasure Capsule (see how it looks, for example, in the Secret Zen Dragon Capsules shop) and Fallen Star that will contain no Dead Land. All fore-mentioned Cloud Keys can always be found in the upper right of the Event's map, on Dead Land tiles that require 50,000 Healing Power.
  • Events seem to take place almost every weekend, skipping no more than one weekend in a month, with old Events reoccurring many times.
  • Any kind of holiday-related Event (Halloween, Thanksgiving etc.) is expected to be available again next year in the same month, though there can be exceptions and it won't necessarily be exactly the same. On other hand, any Event which is not time-related, such as the Magic Moon Event, can potentially reoccur many times across the year with no connection to the month of initial occurrence.
  • The Ancient Games were supposed to be a recurring Event but didn't happen a second time.
